[Story] Fairsong Academy – Letter from Maerista

I have to admit that maybe you were right. At first I was upset that you’d already sent my tuition before I’d even visited the school, because I thought it might be awful. But I know, we haven’t really many options right now and it’s one of the only ones still open and accepting new students. It would have been a lot worse to have to stop my studies and wait until everyone gets back from Kalimdor, because who knows how long that is going to take. And with so few students, it’s easier to ask the Magister if I have questions about things. So I’m making the best of things, but I’m actually starting to like it.
The Magister is very nice. I was worried about his age — I mentioned that he’s probably my age, if not younger. I haven’t asked his exact age because I think that would be impolite. He isn’t an expert with fire spells but he still knows enough, plenty to help me continue with my lessons for now, at least. Maybe once I get to more advanced concepts, he can hire another teacher to help with that. We have our own practice rooms! I never had that at my old school, it’s so much easier to focus and concentrate when it’s quiet. My bedroom is very nice too, we each have our own, and mine has a little closet area for my things. I have a view of the garden and I can see a little bit of the water, though it’s far away. I was a little worried about the spiders and bats, but I haven’t seen any of them yet. If they’ve come around, either the Magister or the new hired person has taken care of them. I haven’t seen any ghosts yet either, though the Magister warned us about them. Is it kind of strange that I actually want to see one? As long as it’s not dangerous, that is. I think it would be kind of neat!
There are two other girls here, Desdeyliri and Xarola. Des has been here for a while, I guess she was the school’s first student, but Xarola is new, like me. It’s kind of strange having only two other girls to talk to! But they’re nice so I don’t mind it too much. I bet they’d like going shopping in Silvermoon with me sometime. There are also two boy students, Renner and Keyalenn. They’re both very cute, but Renner is quite shy I think, and spends a lot of time in his room. Keyalenn seems a bit more adventurous, but he might be a little -too- adventurous. I get the feeling he could be trouble. And yes I know I’m here to study and not look at boys, but if I find one then you won’t have to do it for me! Besides, a magister would be a good husband, right?
The Magister took us for our first outing last night, to the faire! It was a lot bigger than I expected. There are big tents set up all over, some of them had animals inside, while others had games and things you could play. I wish we’d had more time to play some of them, like there was a game where you had to throw a ring onto a stick on a turtle’s back. I bet I could do that. Maybe Des could have made the turtle stop moving, she’s learning arcane magic. But I guess the person running the game would have noticed. They have a bear that is supposed to dance, but it just sat there when we saw it. Maybe it doesn’t actually dance. The Magister said it’s really just a druid but I’m not sure how you can tell. Oh! And the food there is wonderful! When I learn how to conjure, I’m going to make some of those little tarts that I bought from the pastry stand. They also had little pink cupcakes and donuts like the ones they used to sell in Dalaran. I’ve never had them, but the Magister talked about them a lot.
I got my fortune told by a gnoll, it said that I’m going to find happiness with a new love. I wonder when that is supposed to happen?
Can you send some more of my robes here? It seems like a lot of us have red ones!
